Bring Food Home Conference

Posted by Chris Penton on

I recently attended the Bring Food Home Conference. A combined effort of various groups dedicated to a more cohesive local food system for Ontario, the gathering takes place every two years. Also with stops at Just Food’s Farm, North House Foods and the Two Rivers Food Hub, each stop presented tangible manifestations of ideas that have been floating around my head for quite some time. After the go to 'come on, man, really?!' reaction that sometimes manifests itself into speech, I put myself in the shoes of policy makers and the folks that carry out these policies. Indeed, sometimes tight and restrictive, I have seen societies that have gone in the opposite direction. In appreciation of our overregulation, I now suffer silently through the cutting of red tape. Apparently quite a process, I met with the four senior...

Beechwood Market – Going Online

Posted by Chris Penton on

The Beechwood Market will kick into gear on June 10th this year. We’ll run for 18 weeks until Thanksgiving, October 7th. Saturdays 9:00AM-2:00PM. Still on the front lawn of the old St Charles Church, 135 Barrette St, there is a move in the works. We’ll save that surprise for later in the summer! This year’s Beechwood Breakfast duties will be shared between the Beechwood Gastropub, the boys at Jargon and Los Tamalitos. Live music will continue and the kids craft table will be well stocked. Look for special programming on Opening Day, Canada Day and a Fall fiesta (date TBD)....
